Lacy and Calzaghe date set

The two super middleweight champions, Jeff Lacy and Joe Calzaghe announced today that they will fight in Manchester, England on March 4.

The fight will be a super middleweight unification bout, with Calzaghe putting his WBO belt, which he’s defended 17 times, on the line; Lacy became the IBF’s champ in 2004.

Hatton Drops Maussa

Ricky Hatton knocked out Carlos Maussa to unify the IBF and WBA light welter titles. Hatton suffered a bad cut near his left eye that resulted from a head butt early in the fight, but solid cornerwork kept the blood flow under control.

Mayweather proves too quick, too powerful, too everything for Mitchell

Floyd Mayweather Jr. dropped Sharmba Mitchell with a body shot in the sixth round, advancing his record to 35-0, 24 KOs. Winning every round, Mayweather looked as fast and powerful as ever. The win hopefully moves him closer to a match with welterweight champ Zab Judah (34-2, 25 KOs).

De La Hoya to fight Mayorga

Oscar De La Hoya (37-4) and Ricardo Mayorga (28-5-1) have agreed to fight May 6, 2006. It will be Golden Boy’s first fight since a 9/12 KO loss to Bernard Hopkins in September ‘04.
Mayorga’s most recent fight was last August; El Matador won a unanimous decision against Michele Piccirillo.
