Darchinyan-Gabi

Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan successfully defended his IBF flyweight title tonight by knocking out Diosdado Gabi.

I don’t know about calling a flyweight “Bull,” but Darchinyan’s a definitely a raging something. It was one of those fights that barely allows for a trip to the fridge for a beer. Practically every punch Darchinyan throws has knockout power, and with Freddie Roach and Jeff Fenech in the corners, the event was compelling even between rounds.

Gabi put up a game fight, and Roach’s preparation was evident, but the young fighter from the Philippines could only dodge so many of the champion’s wild barrages before catching a flush shot that dropped him in the 8th.
