Lacy-Calzaghe, Finally

Coming into ‘06 the fight I was most excited about was Barrera-Chavez. That one’s off, but Saturday night’s main event has me almost as jazzed. It has the makings of a classic match-up. Coming off impressive knock-out wins over Robin Reid and Scott Pemberton, the undefeated Lacy’s about as hot as a fighter can get. Calzaghe, also undefeated, has 17 title defenses in his long career. Lacy is younger and stronger, Calzaghe more experienced and (by many accounts) a better boxer.

So is Lacy really good enough to be a top-draw fighter? Is Calzaghe everything his record suggests or has his (mostly European) opposition been sub-par? Chances are we’ll get an answer to one or both of these questions Saturday night.

My money’s on Lacy for a late round KO.
